The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult (RCIA) process normally begins in July and ends at Pentecost of the following year.
The process follows closely what has been prescribed by the rite. After initial evangelization, the candidates enter the rite of becoming catechumens on the 1st Sunday of advent.
The catechumenate begins from then till the 1st Sunday of Lent. Before the candidates receive the rite of Election, they are normally interviewed by the Parish Priest to determine their seriousness and suitability to be accepted as the Elect for the Easter sacraments of Initiation.
From 1st Sunday of Lent till Easter Vigil, they will celebrate the 3 scrutinies and be presented with the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. At Easter Vigil, they will receive the sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
After Easter, the mysteries which were celebrated at Easter are further explained to them (mystagogia) and are led into the Christian community life.
